Project Organization.

Yeah...my house is a complete organizational disaster right now. All but one room anyway. My bedroom. That's only livable because I spend a few hours in there yesterday doing a complete overhaul. I emptied my closet, took out any clothes that are not ever going to be worn again. (most of what was hanging there) Cleaned out both hubbies and my dressers and did just a general cleaning of my room. Funny, as a child I was yelled at constantly to clean my room, and as an adult, it's still a chore. It's the last room I do in the house!

Well, Project Organization is my new way of getting my home the way I want it. With a place for everything, and everything in place...everything else is going. Either consignment or donations will be the new home for much of my clutter.

I have one room complete...only 5 rooms left to go. I'm hoping this project will take about 2 weeks total, start to finish.

Sunday will consist of my Ben's room. Toys Galore!!! I estimate that will take about 2 hours. Come back later today for pictures!

How Wheat Works

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Wheat Food Council. All opinions are 100% mine.

Do you take the time to teach your family about the foods that you eat. Do you know yourself? I'll admit, I don't always take that time with Ben, I don't always have it! But on occasion we do spend time talking about farming, and where his food really comes from. It's good for him to know that the grocery store isn't really where his food comes from, just the source of where we buy it.

How Wheat Works is a very cool tool that you can use to help your family and friends learn just what goes into the bread, pasta and cakes that so many of us eat daily and take for granted. Though it's not just about the ingredients, but the work as well. How Wheat Works is an interactive online program that allows it's users to plant their own wheat field, let it grow, harvest and mill it, and eventually eat the fruits of their labor...virtually of course.

The program spans over four days, and is a efficient way to teach your family just what it takes to put the bread on you table. But education isn't the only benefit of the How Wheat Works program. For every person who goes through this free program, The Wheat Foods Council will donate 2lbs of flour to OperationHomefront.net. A non profit organization that assists in helping the families of U.S. Troops. They will donate up to 90,000 lbs of flour! That's a lot of loaves of bread!

There are many resources for Kids on the Wheat Foods Council website as well. Geared at kids ages 9 to 12, you'll find quizzes, recipes, games and information about wheat and other types of grains.

Wii - less

My son is Wii less...yes, I am the mean mean Mom who wont buy him a Nintendo Wii.

My son Ben is 4.5 years old, and a HUGE gamer. He gets it from his Mom :-)
He currently has an old school Nintendo Gameboy Color, Nintendo 64, Playstation 2, and for Christmas he got a Nintendo DS. But the boy dwells on the fact that he doesn't have a Wii. For the last few months he was playing his uncles' Nintendo Wii, and got hooked....I don't blame him. It's an amazing gaming machine. But after Christmas his uncle took it to university with him, and left Ben Wii-less.

Since a Wii is so far out of our budget when it comes to Disposable Income, I've told him if he wants one, he has to save his money, and earn what he can. Now, for a 4 year old, that is a hard concept. He knows about money, and that things cost money, but has no idea what the actual value of a dollar is. And now it's up to me to make him see just what it takes to earn those dollars.

We've started kinda small, since I really don't have the cash to give him, I want him to actually grasp how much you have to work to earn any amount of money.

So his jobs to date are:
~Drying the Dishes=$2/job (which he loves to do) we don't have a dishwasher (except me) so this is actually a big job.
~Cleaning His Room=$0.25/day (I really shouldn't pay him for this)
~Helping Take Out The Trash=$1/week
~Returning the recyclables=25% off the refund.

This earns him approximately $5/week, we return the recyclables about once per month, and that usually earns him about $7.50 So were up to about $27.50 per month.

He also loves to hit up his grandparents and aunts for their spare change, which probably gains him another $10/month.

So, lets aim low and say he earns about $35 per month. A Wii is $200 plus sales tax, brings it to $226. He's looking at about 6.5 months of earning and saving his cash. Since he already has a month behind him, and has a little over $30 saved, I think this is pretty accurate and he should be able to pull it off.

So how do you teach your kids about money, and the value of it. Would you start as early as I have? And would you do anything differently. I 'd love to hear what you've done, and how it's worked for you.

Our New Baby Celebration - See Kai Run Review & Giveaway

If you've been a reader of A Busy Mommy, than you already know just how much I LOVE SEE KAI RUN and SMALLER. They truly are my favorite kids shoes. With the birth of my new son William, I was given the opportunity to review yet another pair of shoes from their wonderful new Spring Line.

When I look at all the wonderful designs that See Kai Run offers, it's so hard to decide just what pair I want to dress up my little boys in. Williams' feet will always be in style, because I wont be able to stop at just one pair! And Ben, who has outgrown the sizes that See Kai Run and Smaller carry is now showing off his shoes from Eleven Collection, their sister site.

What I really Love about See Kai Run and Smaller is that they really make the perfect shoe. The pair I have shown here are the Cameron from the new Spring 2010 Smaller collection which are available this February. They are made from a very sturdy leather. They are soft soled, perfect for babies developing feet, and the stitching is nice and sturdy! I can't wait until William is just a little bit older so he can wear these gems!

Not only is See Kai Run great for your kids feet, they're also wonderful when disaster strikes. We've all heard by know about the disaster in Haiti. So many people lost everything, their homes, their family, and all their belongings. Well the people at See Kai Run wanted to do their part to help out and they generously donated almost 3000 pairs of childrens' shoes. SolesforSouls are distributing them to many of the children, keeping their feet safe from all the debris and broken glass.

Buy It!
You can buy both the See Kai Run and Smaller line at their website, seekairun.com

Crappy Kitchen Table...

Well, it's not really the table that is bad...it's actually the chairs. And they're horrible. I'm an almost 30 year old woman who has Patio chairs around her kitchen table. Can You Imagine???

Well, I don't need to, cause it's real. When it comes down to it, a new Dining Table hasn't been a priority for me... not until now anyway. We've always lived out lives paycheck to paycheck, so a lot of our furniture has been hand me down...(mostly from my Mom, who has a beautiful home) Our bed is not in great shape, our couch I bought for $100, and my table has patio chairs around it.

Well, I've noticed a big change in my attitude towards my home since Wil was born, and I WANT it to be pretty, inviting, comfy... I want everything to have a home, a place for everything. And if it doesn't, then it needs to go...I don't have room for clutter. But my biggest want is a new Kitchen Table. (Well, besides a new camera - that's right up there too!)

If I was single, or didn't have small children, I would pick one of those Bistro Sets, the kind with the tall stools that go around it. Oh, how I wish... But my next household purchase will be a real Kitchen Table with matching chairs, and I can't wait! Though I think I may have to.

I'll be putting up with these horrible patio chairs for a little while longer, and hopefully I'll be able to put away enough in savings to buy a table that will last me and my family a lifetime.

Our New Baby Celebration - Puj Tub Review

By far the best product that I've had for baby ever! I say that every time I bathe Wil in his new Puj Tub.

Recently I was selected as a reviewer for the most innovative Baby Bath Tubs around. The Puj Tub. I honestly couldn't be happier. The ease and convenience of the Puj is one of a kind, and most definitely invented by a Mom.

I remember back when Ben was a baby and I would have to pull out the big plastic tub, fill it up with water, and lay him in it, screaming of course. For some reason he could never sit strait in it, he was always sliding to the left or right, at the time I never really thought about it, but now I get it...It didn't cradle him. Well sliding baby now more, the Puj Tub has fixed all the frustration out of bathing baby. It cradles baby, holding him in place, giving you two hands to bathe with. What I love about it most, is that it's soft. It's not hard cold plastic, It is a spongy soft material that is both anti bacterial and anti fungal. Triple Bonus!! Remember washing those big plastic tubs, trying to get into the corners...yeah...doesn't work well.

There just isn't enough ways to say how awesome this baby bath tub is. It Hangs To Dry!! Yay! Lays flat for easy storage... Travelling? You could easily lay the Puj Tub in the bottom of your suitcase.

So if your ready to run away from those Old School Bath Tubs, be sure to check out these awesome Baby Bath Tubs.

Disclaimer: The Puj Tub was provided to me free of charge for the purpose of this review. The opinions are my own. Remember, NEVER leave baby unattended while bathing.

Brothers

This will forever be one of my favorite pictures. On the left, always one of my very best Baby Ben pictures. I love how he sleeps like his Daddy. (He still does it too) That is why I was so happy when I caught Wil doing the same thing. Sleeping like his big brother and his Daddy. I love It!!! I'm sure as they grow, William and Benjamin will show just how different they are, but for right now I'm basking in the similarities.

Formula Goes To Court!

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of PBM Products. All opinions are 100% mine.

Brand Name VS Store Brand

This is a battle that has gone on for years, and for most of us, we've come to realize that brand name is usually best.

There are exceptions to this rule however, and Mead Johnson found that out the hard way when they lost a $13.5 million dollar False Advertising Lawsuit against PBM Products.

PBM Products is a leading infant formula company which supplies many of the store brand formulas. Stores like Kroger, Walmart, Sam's Club and Target all carry both name brand and off brand products, the off brand being considerably less expensive. Unfortunately we're all bred to believe that Name Brand is always best, and because of that, companies play on it.

In the recent lawsuit, Mead Johnson was found to be misleading people by suggesting that there was a nutritional difference between the off brand and the more expensive Enfamil. There is no difference, except in price. When it comes right down to it, both companies products have the same standards to live up to...that they provide the necessary levels of nutrients for the growth of healthy babies.

So I ask, how much extra money have you spent? This is a case of "All Are Created Equal"

Wordless Wednesday

It's still Wednesday, Right??? So I'm a bit late posting this, but hey, at least it's there. Here is a picture of my two favorite people. Wil just loves to start at his big bro, I think it's amazing how after only 5 weeks, they've already created such a bond.

Our New Baby Celebration - Wishes & Kisses Review

When we have our children, we hope for nothing but to surround our kids with Love and Hopes. We want all of their Dreams to come true and their days to be filled with Joy. Well, that was the mission of Sandra Magsamen as well, and she put that to work with her line of New Born Clothes called Wishes & Kisses.

I was lucky enough to receive an outfit from Sandra's spring line, and it really is adorable. A white top and overalls set, adorned with a happy face sun and a very cute alligator (or is it a crocodile, I can never tell the difference) and the words, "You Are My Sunshine". I love this outfit and I can't wait until Little Wil can fit into it. It should actually fit perfectly for spring!

What is really neat is that every time I look at it, I start singing!! "You are my sunshine, My only sunshine..." And singing is loved by all babies! Funny how it only takes a cute outfit to ignite my need to sing to them, brightening up my day, and making my kids smile!

The overalls are easy for diaper changes, with snaps going from ankle to ankle, and the material is nice and thick, perfect for the cooler spring days! Around my neck of the woods it's stays cool until Mid June, so we'll be sure to get lots of use out of this outfit. I'll be sure to post pics' of will wearing it, as soon as he gains a few more pounds. (At the rate he's growing, that wont be much longer!) Even the hanger that the outfit came on is special, with a little star all of its own.

Sandra Magsamen's Wishes & Kisses Spring 2010 Collection is available now at Walmart. Check out all her other creations at SandraMagsamen.Com

Saving Money With Coupons

I've been a big fan of saving money for a long time. I've always been really good at finding the best deals at the grocery store, buying some of my kids clothes the at the end of season sales, and just smart shopping in general.

The best thing that happened to me was venturing online. When Ben was just a baby I found a few sites online that focused mainly on saving money, and couponing. Shortly after finding those sites I went to my local dollar store, bought myself a little folder and started saving coupons.

The response I got from hubby was 'coupons are for poor people.' Well, he learned quite quickly that he was way wrong. In no time I was saving an average of $40 per grocery trip - that's $80/month. All by using coupons and shopping the sales. Hubby was smiling.

When I first started couponing, it took time. I had to find the coupons, be it in store or online. I had to keep them organized (cause I'm like that) and when our weekly sales flyers arrived, I would spend an hour scouring them for the best sales, and matching up coupons with those sales. Quickly I learned that there are a few tricks to effective couponing.

  • When you see a coupon on the store shelf that is a for a product that you buy all the time, take as many as you will use until the expiry date.
  • Don't buy a product that you don't usually use just because you have a coupon, unless it is something you wanted to try. In that case, just buy one.
  • Plan your shopping trips, take the time to go through the flyers and pull your coupons that you plan to use in that trip. Put them to the front of your folder so you can find them easily. This eliminates the " I know I have a coupon for that " time that can get wasted.
  • Know your prices. That way when you see something on sale, you know if it's really a good deal.
Another way to save money is to shop online. There are sites online that list coupon codes for products. This can seriously reduce the amount spent on products that you would otherwise be paying full price for. This works really well for Holiday Shopping, because you know ahead of time the things you will need. For Christmas it's bigger gifts, toys, ect...Valentine's Day it's flowers and chocolate. Find sites that work well for you and bookmark them. That way when you know you've got some shopping to do, all your resources are at your fingertips.

Ben starts school this coming September, and I am already looking for deals on supplies, clothes, and all the gear he will need for school. That's my last tip for today - shop ahead. Sometimes you can get the best deals 6 months before you're actually going to need the product.

Disclaimer: The opinions expressed in this post are mine, and I couldn't live without my coupons. But I do have to let you know that this post is sponsored.

Just Another Day...

Do you hate Mondays? I don't usually. Usually I try to embrace Mondays like a new beginning. The start of a new week. And since I don't work out of the home yet, and my kids don't go to school full time, Mondays are just another day to me.

Well, today is Monday, and though really nothing horrible has happened, I've kinda felt blah today. Probably due to the lack of sleep I had last night. No, Wil didn't keep me up, he's an amazing night time sleeper. I kept myself up. Stayed out at the Inlaws too late, got home close to 11pm. Put the kids to bed. Then I stayed up until 1am. Shouldn't have. I should have put my butt to bed at the same time the kiddos went.

So today I'm paying the price for my self inflicted sleepyness, with a very cranky baby and a headache. But the blogoverse thankfully is always there to save me. It's so nice to see so many people working together to achieve success. So unlike the 'real world' where everything is a competition. I was happy to be directed and mentioned In a new Blog Meme From The Pursuit of Mommyness. Connect MEme Monday is intended to help us all connect together using Google Friend Connect. So head over, make some new friends and suggest a few great blogs that you love.

Now I must get back to work. There is a review I've been trying to write for 3 days now, but my littlest man is working against me on it.

Oh! And have a great MONDAY!

Our New Baby Celebration - Nifty Knees Review & Giveaway

Photobucket

This looks familiar doesn't it. That's right, I did a review for Nifty Knees shortly before Christmas, (you can read that review here). Now that Wil has been born and is able to wear the garments that Nifty Knees sent me, I wanted to tell you a little bit more about them.

The first thing I have to say is that Wil was not cooperating when trying to do this review - Every time I dressed him in the onsie, he would poop - up his back. (Even in this photo he had spit up) It happened every time, but, that is a good thing. It allowed me the opportunity to wash the onsie a few times. First of all, it didn't stain. Which is amazing because my kid can stain anything! Now, I was careful to make sure that the stain never set. Each time it came out with the first wash, and not even a trace of a mark. The top hasn't shrunk, and the writing hasn't cracked or peeled. It's holding up wonderfully.

I love how thick the material is. It holds it's own. It's not flimsy and thin like so many onsies and diaper shirts. And the long sleeves are such a bonus! It's pretty cold around here and though I don't like to over dress Wil, I do like to keep him warm.

The baby leggings are still a little to big for Mr. Wil, but I put them on him anyway for the sake of a picture. They washed very well, I did lay them flat to dry, but had no problem with shrinkage or the colors running. I can't wait until he stretches out a bit more so he can sport the leggings more often.

Just Stop Thumping...

I say these words at least a hundred times a day. Between "Just stop thumping" and "keep your feet quiet!" Reason being...The people under the stairs.

You see, we live in a rental. I'm not ashamed...I actually don't mind it. When something breaks, people come to fix it, and I don't get the bill. When it snows, a big tractor comes and cleans out my drive way. No shoveling for me! I don't even complain about the 30 year old crappy carpet...well, maybe a little.

I only have one complaint - The people under the stairs, or at least that's how I refer to them. They're not really bad people, they don't complain a lot, They (he) just made it perfectly clear before we moved in that he can't stand noise...well, I have kids.

The day I signed the lease, shortly before moving in, I came up to clean. The place was pretty clean anyway, it just needed some corners scrubbed and of course, the bathroom. Well, I brought Ben with me when I came to clean. At the time he was 3. Well, what happens when you let a 3 year old loose in a completely empty apartment? HE RUNS...HE JUMPS...HE MAKES NOISE!!! I wasn't here for 10 minutes before the downstairs neighbour made himself known by coming to my door and spazzing about the noise. It took me almost 15 minutes to get him off my front step! (I pleasantly told him I would do my best to keep him quiet, but he's 3...he's gonna make noise)

So we move in...we went a few weeks with no problems, no complaints...until one evening while I was at work and Hubby was home with Ben...The Man from under the stairs returned. And for some reason he thought it would be a good idea to tell hubby (some whom he had never met before) that he needs to control his child...NOT A GOOD IDEA. Somehow hubby was able to control his anger enough not to throw the man off our step - at least a 15 foot drop - and he called me...fuming! I told him I would deal with it and the next morning I called the landlord. You see, these people under the stairs have tenure, they've lived there for almost 20 years. (You would think they'd be used to the noise by now - or have moved) Anyway, I just said I don't want them coming to my door again...ever. And for the most part everything ended with that.

I've since been able to create a passing relationship with the Lady Under The Stairs, and we can chat for 10 or 15 minutes while were hanging out our laundry. And I do always apologize for any noise that we make. She's actually really nice - He still doesn't speak to me much.

So...now that I've bored you to death - I'll tell you why I say "Just Stop Thumping" a hundred times a day. Ben is heavy footed. And he doesn't ever walk - always runs. Which means every step he takes is thumping on their heads. They say it's only annoying at night, they go to be by 10 and we're night owls. But I am always aware of them, and I am constantly getting after Ben to keep his feet quiet.

I feel like it's really unfair to Ben. In one hand, he has to learn to be respectful of those around him, but at the same time, he should be allowed to be a kid. The hardest part is that I feel like I am yelling at him all the time.

So, what would you do? Would you do you best to keep you kids feet quiet, or would you just let them be until say 6:30pm. I really feel bad for getting after him sooooooo much.

Candles, Wine & Sweets for my Valentine

How do you plan to spend your Valentine's Day?

I know, being parents leaves little time for ourselves, especially in the Romance department. In the 5 years that I've been a parent, I don't remember one Romantic Valentine's Day - more sweet treats with my kiddo, and silly presents from hubby.

I actually can't wait to send these cards out, they are very simple and classy, I have a few friends that would love to receive these). The package also included a bottle of Copper Moon wine - I can only have a little because I'm nursing, but I'm sure it'll taste wonderful - It's been about a year since I've even had a taste! And from glade we received a multi wick candle in sheer white cotton scent, as well as a single candle and reed diffuser in the Currant and Acai scent, My Very Favorite Scent Ever!!!

Now that you're all jealous of my Valentine's Plans, I'm going to make it even better! Glade has provided me with this same Gift Package to give to one of my Canadian Readers!

Our New Baby Celebration - Boon Inc Review & Giveaway

Not to long ago, I contacted a company called Boon Inc. I had come across their website, and fell in love with the futuristic designs of their products. I thought they would be a great addition to the Our New Baby Celebration. Well, luckily enough, they thought so too, and provided me with two great products to review.

The first product is called Fluid. This is a cup for toddlers, and is a great transition cup for those going from bottle to sippy cup. It's design allows it to be easily held with either hand, and the top doesn't allow for a huge gulp of water, so you don't need to worry much about spills and drips. For a retail price of $5.99 it is very affordable. Though not a toddler, my 4 year old has claimed this sippy for himself. He loves the funky design! This cup is a hit in out house, and as Wil gets older I'll be adding a few more 'Fluids' to our cup collection.

The second product we received to review is called Groovy. It is an interlocking bowl and plate set and is too cool! The main part is a plate with two separate sections, perfect for kids who don't like their foods to touch. There are also two little bowls that are removable and can be placed anywhere on the outside of the lower part of the plate. They slide on and stay in place really well! The little bowls are great for dipping sauces, ketchup, or a small vegetable like peas or corn. Groovy retails for $12.99.

Sleep is for the weak...

Says the mom who didn't get much sleep last night.

I've never been a good sleeper, always the night owl. Having kids has made that sort of lifestyle difficult for me. When you have little kids to take care of, you have to be awake when they are, and by nature...they're up early.

Well, it really doesn't take long to screw with your kids internal clocks and turn them into night owls as well. I did this to Ben, unintentionally. But now he's a crappy sleeper and we're both paying the price.

I've been going since 3am...It's almost 6:30am - I've already created the new header for my site (do you like it?) made a grilled cheese sandwich (for Ben) and my house would be spotless if I didn't have people living downstairs. (I call them the people under the stairs..they're cranky and don't think kids should make noise)

Thankfully I had the brains to go to bed at 11pm...my usual bedtime is closer to 1am. I can't do that anymore. If I go to bed at 1am, when Wil wakes up between 3am and 4am I am a mess, barely awake enough to feed him... And Ben starts school in September. I need to change my routine.

Well, I think my kids are forcing me into that change. Wil got up at 3am to feed, wouldn't go back to sleep until 4:20am - he was bright eyed and looking to be entertained! Right after he finally dozed off, Ben gets up, ready to start his day...

Well, I hope I have enough coffee to get me through this one...night time is still such a long way away, and I have a few vlogs I need to do!

Check back later for a new Review and Giveaway to be posted!
