Princess and Pirate Potty! Review
One of the first huge challenges that we face as parents (besides sleepless nights) is potty training. When we get to the point in our kids lives that they are ready for this next big step they're also usually in a defiant stage. This can make potty training very frustrating. As parents, we turn to distractions to help our kids along the way. Many parents will use things such as candy and stickers to reward their kids for using the potty! And their isn't a thing wrong with that, as far as I am concerned.
Earlier this week I received two children's books in the mail. Pirate Potty and Princess Potty. Written by Samantha Burger and illustrated by Amy Cartwrite. Their topic, kids using the potty. Now, I know there are quite a few books out there that touch on this topic, but these books really stand out in the crowd.
These two books play on things that kids love. First of all, secrets...both stories start out by telling a secret. Second, Pirates and Princess'! My oldest son is almost 5 and LOVES this book. Long past potty training but he loves anything that is Pirate like. I'm sure if I had this while he was training, we would have had a few less messes. Not only do these books offer a humorous story for your potty bound child, but the rewards as well. Inside each book there is a paper hat that you can put together - a Pirate hat and a Princess crown. For every time you child uses the potty, they get a sticker for their hat! (Just like the kids in the story.)

For our first son, what finally worked with potty training was cheerios. We would throw some in the toilet and he would use them for target practice.

When my 4-yr old was potty-training, someone read her the book with a little boy who had a potty that looked like a bucket. Sure enough, she would use the sand pails and bucket-like containers in her room to pee in.

My daughter always has to take ALL her clothes off when she goes potty, I have no idea why but she does everytime. She also has to have a book with her when ever she goes haha.

Oh my, where to start? My son, who will be 2 on the 25th, started potty training himself when he was 19 months. He pees on the potty well but refuses to poop! It drives me crazy! He is OBSESSED with pirates so this book would be AWESOME! THANKS

I love my outspoken daughter. When we have gone potty at public locations, and I have to go, she always says (yells) "Good Job, Mommy!" or the occasional, "Bend over and let me wipe your bottom!" Sometimes a little embarassing, but always makes me laugh!

I'm only getting ready to start potty training, so this prize is totally awesome. My son has started to bring me a diaper & baby wipes when he wants his diaper changed though! So that's pretty funny.

I haven't been through the potty training process yet with my own, but plenty through babysitting and child care centers. I remember this one little boy who was potty training - he thought it would be okay to get naked and go when we were outside!

My son was really easy to potty train. He simple didn't like wet or poopy pants so he would just pull his diaper off. And he really liked sitting on the big pot.
My daughter is not potty trained yet. I tried to start but every time I ask her if she wants to pee-pee in the potty she would tell me "NO THANKS!"

I am just starting to potty train so not many stories yet, but we do have a poo-casso. If he gets a dirty diaper during naptime, he smears his poo all over his crib. I can't wait till potty training is over!!!

To train my children, I rewarded them with M&M's whenever they did it "correctly." The kids started to want more and more M&Ms and started saying "Mommy, I need to go" every 5 minutes. That was pretty funny!

Our 3 year old was potty trained at 1 1/2 because we stuck her in underwear, and the first time she peed (on my foot) she was devastated and never had an accident again!

My personal story? Goodness - I can't remember. I do remember having "accidents" in school because I was too shy to ask to go to the bathroom... My daughter is just dealing with potty training now - she was trained several months ago and did perfectly for 3 days, then quit!

Princess Potty! I've trained 2 kidlings so far at fairly young ages - ut I'm working on my 3rd now and she still doesn't entirely understand the concept of actually 'going' on the potty, though she does love to sit on it and wipe herself!

After a failed attempt 6 months earlier, we told our son that when he turned 3 he was going to wear big boy underwear. He only had a couple accidents. I almost wish we would have tried a couple months earlier!

With my first child, I wanted to potty train her by the age of 2yrs, so I started a few months before then AND she wanted no part in it. With trying to get her to use the potty and encouraging her to be a big girl. She finally decided to start using the potty just a couple of months before her 3rd birthday. However, she potty trained in 3 days!!
