Our Freebie Christmas 2010
As the 2009 Holiday Season comes to an end, I can't help but think about Christmas 2010. I know, I know... Who really wants to start thinking about next Christmas already...well, I do for one!
Not because I love Christmas so much (Though I really, really do) and not because I've completely lost my marbles - (happened quite some time ago) but because I have 2 children now to provide a wonderful Christmas for, and a bunch of family members that all deserve to get something wonderful for Christmas!
Now the reason I start planning so early is because our family lives on a VERY tight budget, and with another mouth to feed now, it's only getting tighter. So I do tend to use my skill of smart shopping, coupon usage and freebie offers to fill many of the stockings in our house...(and save a ton of money at the same time)
So, now that many credit card bills are starting to arrive, it's time to start planning next years Holidays and keeping the bills as small as possible. Here is what I am doing right now to start my 2010 Christmas savings.
Swagbucks - Swagbucks is a search engine that pays you in giftcards for using their site to do regular searches. I use it daily and try to make sure that I earn at least one point per day. 45 points = $5 at Amazon. And there are many other giftcards available. The Amazon is what works best for me. Since I am Canadian I get the Amazon.ca giftcards, but Amazon.com giftcards are available too.
If Swagbucks is of interest to you, I would love to refer you. Just click this link to sign up then start searching!
The next site I use to help fill our stockings is Lunch Mate City . When you buy Lunch Mates they each come with a code that you can enter on Lunch Mate City. Each code has a point value and you can save your points to redeem for great items from Playstation, Crayola, and Hasbro. I usually redeem for Crayola products as they used daily here at the A Busy Mommy home, and they go well in a Stocking! (Canada Only)
I also use a site called Chapman's Kids Club. It is a site where the kids in your home can play games to earn points - those points can be redeemed for Chapmans Prizes. They have markers and aprons, t-shirts and toys (all with Chapmans logo on them) They also have a $5 coupon available for 7500 points (about 13 days of playing) that can be redeemed for twice a year. I save the $5 coupons for Christmas Treats as they are good on any Chapmans products. (Canada Only)
Last, but definitely not least is Airmiles. Many people will save their Airmiles for for discounts on flights, but since I don't go anywhere I use them for the giftcards that they offer. I usually redeem them for Sobeys giftcards (because who doesn't want free groceries at Christmas Time) but they do offer a ton of other giftcards, as well as great Items you can get directly from the site. I usually get my Airmiles by shopping at Sobeys and getting my gas at Shell.
So - Since it's early January, I'm basically starting from scratch. Below you'll find a list of my goals and totals so far. I intend to keep updating this post to reflect new totals, goals and freebies I have aquired.
Good Luck To Everyone! And I hope you all have an Inexpensive 2010 Christmas.

Re: Airmiles - I find I get a lot of points doing things like answering their surveys, or signing up for bonus offers - I just got 100 bonus points signing up for a Safeway online flyer. I don't even shop at Safeway, but hey, for 100 points I'm willing to have an email come to me. I think I've actually heard that most people don't use airmiles to fly, but for products. Also great for free movie tickets. Good to know on the Chapmans - money towards ice cream is good! Swagbucks - I have an account... I think I might try your approach.
Do you have the airmiles toolbar? For every 50 searchs you do airmiles will give you 5 airmiles up to 30 airmiles/month - that's 360/year without spending a dime. The search is kinda annoying, it only counts "real" words so if you misspell something you'll get a message that your search doesn't acount but I don't find it that annoying. Anyway, if you don't have it you can get it here: https://www.airmiles.ca/arrow/Toolbar
I use both this and the swagbucks toolbar so I can collect airmiles when I'm not searching for swagbucks, and I find that works well for me.
