Happy Halloween!

Stay Safe Tonight!

This is Ben's 4th active Halloween and he's very excited. We're going to our local mall around 4pm as most of the stores there will be handing out candy. After we're done there, we're going to come home for a quick supper then off to Trick-Or-Treat!

I am grateful that we live in a subdivision where there are a lot of houses in a close area, so we shouldn't need to be out all night. This 8 month baby belly is restricting when it comes to doing a lot of walking, so we will be taking the car and parking at the end of each street.

For a 4 year old, I think Trick-Or-Treating for an hour should be more than enough. So I look forward to an early evening, as well as an extra hours sleep tonight!

Don't forget to Change Your Clocks tonight!

Frenchy Baby Organics

A few weeks ago I received a parcel in the mail. It was an outfit from Frenchy Baby Organics. Now, when I first heard of the company, I kinda thought that it would be similar to most other baby cloths, but as soon as I laid my hand on the outfit I was proven wrong!

Frenchy Baby Clothes are made from Organic Cotton, which I've really never had the opportunity to work with in the past. Well, I never want to go back! This little outfit is the softest I've ever felt, of all the clothes I've ever had! I really can't wait to put it on our newest addition (Coming this December) and watch him be in comfort.

Comfort and Style that is.

Frenchy Baby Organics clothing are very stylish, and not over done! The designs on the clothes are simple, but trendy. Leaving baby to be adored!

Frenchy Baby also has an adorable Crib Bedding set that I would be thrilled to adorn my sons crib with. It is beautiful, and if it is anything like their clothing line, I can just imagine how well he would sleep, in the most comfy of organic cotton.

PUR Flavor Pitcher

Recently our family was chosen to try out the new PUR Flavor Pitcher. I was thrilled as my main beverage is water, and both my Ben and Corey love flavored water, so I figured it would be a perfect match for our family. Boy was I right! This pitcher has been filled at least twice a day since it's arrival to our home!

For me, I enjoy the plain filtered water that the pitcher provides. Since our home is on the town supply and not well water, our water tastes like a public swimming pool. The PUR filtration system completely fixes that problem for me, without me needing to spend money on bottled water, or hurting our environment with the plastic.

Ben and Corey are huge fans of the flavor, we got to try out the Raspberry, which just happens to be one of Ben's favs! Instead of asking for juice when he's thirsty, he now asks for Flavored Water! This thrills me as I can't stand the amount of sugar that is in most juices on the market.

The biggest feature that I enjoy is that it doesn't flavor the whole pitcher of water! The flavor packet goes into the cover and you squeeze the flavor into your glass via the button on the end close to the handle. This gives you full control over how much or little flavor goes into your glass!

Recently PUR has joined forces with Summit on the Summit to help bring clean drinking water to children around the world. For every Pitcher that is sold, PUR will provide clean drinking water to one child for a week. To learn more about Summit on the Summit, please watch the following video.

The Giveaway!

One lucky A Busy Mommy reader is going to win a PUR Flavor Pitcher for their family to enjoy. To enter, please head over to Purwater.com and let me know which of the 5 flavors you would love to try!

I'm so not ready....

A Baby & Christmas

58
days and counting and I am so not ready for this little baby to come....It's funny, when I was pregnant with Ben I had lists and lists of the things I needed, the things I had, and the things I still wanted to do....and we had a name picked out from the day we found out he was a boy. Actually long before then, cause we were pretty sure he was going to be a boy. With Ben we also had a baby shower, and boy was it huge, there were over 40 people there and it took 2 cars to bring everything home...no such luck this time around. Unfortunately it's just not in the stars.

On top of not being ready for our new baby, I have Christmas to deal with on top of it. This little boy is due only a week before Christmas, so realistically I need to be ready for both MAJOR events by the first of December....which leaves me with 41 days.

41 days to get all the things I need for the new baby, 41 days to get ready for Christmas, 41 days....

I don't know if I can say this loud enough but I need some major HELP!!!!!

So here is where I'm starting...This post. This is now my Baby List, My Christmas List, My Things I need to do list. Though this post is for all to read, it's here for me to keep track, update and prepare. I need this list, cause at this point I'm quite a bit overwhelmed and really not sure where to start.

  13. Onsies, Sleepers, Outfits
  14. One of those Snot Sucker Things
  15. Burp Cloths

  17. Mitts
I'm sure this list will change daily...now that I'm thinking about it more, more things keep coming to mind.

My Love/Hate Relationship With... Play-Doh

I really shouldn't say hate...it is such a strong word. I really do love play-doh, and so does Ben. He brings his Play-Doh out every day to play with it, and is very at putting it back when he's through. He loves looking at the idea instructions that come with and trying to create the butterflies and such. He also loves making hot dogs and burgers, french fries and other types of food for us to "eat".

So through all this creativity, what is it that I don't like???? MIXING THE COLORS!
Call it O.C.D., call it crazy, I don't care what you call it, as soon as those colors start to mix I must make them a solid color! I can't just leave the swirls and stripes alone...I have to knead and knead it until it becomes uniform once again.

Now, trying to get any child to not mix the colors is near impossible, and really not worth the battle, so I just suck it up and mix those colors. After about the tenth time playing with his play-doh we're left with a big hunk of an ugly greyish purple hue that really doesn't make much besides the odd alien.

Now, I've tried to cheap out an make our own with flour and water, food coloring and such, It really is NOT the same. Its sticky and yucky, doesn't have near the smooth texture of Play-Doh, and you know what...it isn't any cheaper!! A container of play-doh is usually under a dollar!

Now for Christmas Ben has made it clear that he would like the Play-Doh Ice Cream Shop, and I will get it for him (Well, Santa will) but I can just see me now on boxing day, kneading mixed colors just to get that uniform color once again.

There is a few tricks I've learned about Play-Doh for those who are like me and can't handle the swirls. (Though I do find them pretty)

#1 - Save your Play-Doh Containers - When your kiddo forgets to put their Play-Doh away and it dries up....save those containers...when you've finishes mixing colors and have created a new one, it will then have it's own container to go into.

#2 - If you have a big chunk of swirls and swoops, many mixed colors all combined, separate the blob into sections and try to mix the like blogs together. You'll get a bunch of different colors that way.

#3 - When you do end up with that big purple/grey blob use that as foundation for your kids creations....make it the ground or hills then they can add to it with their ever so vibrant newer colors.

Bold
Most of all, have fun, and let your kids have fun too. That's what it's there for!

This post was in no way sponsored or paid for. All of our Play-Doh has been bought and paid for by me.

Ready For Bed Week

Ready For Bed Week 2009
October 25th - 31st

Do you every have trouble putting your kids to bed. I know in my house it can be the most frustrating time of the day. Fighting to get your kids to wash their face, and brush their teeth...then the worst of all, getting them in bed for the night, and making them stay there.

Well, when your going through this night time ritual, are you ever thankful that your child has a bed? I know in many homes, this is something that can be taken for granted. Well, last night I followed someone on twitter (@mugglesam), who's tweets changed my mind about bed time in our house. From now on I will not take our beds for granted, I will be thankful that we have them.

Around the world there are millions of children who don't have a bed to sleep in, a pillow to lay their head on, or clothes to cover their backs. Though I've always known this I never really though that there was much I could do about it. Well last night I watched the video posted below and now I know I can do something to help, please take just a couple minutes to watch Sophia tell us what we can do...

Thank You for taking the time to watch it. Now, here is what we can do. I am calling on any and all the A Busy Mommy readers to help out. No, I'm not asking you to send money, though I'm sure any donations would be gladly received. What I am asking is that you download the Rewards Chart that was spoke of in the video. Once you've done that please leave a comment here letting me know that you've done it. If we can help just ONE child get a Bed Kit I will be forever grateful to all of you.

As an added incentive, I am going to make this an extra entry into any of our giveaways. Download it once, (And leave a comment here) and then go leave a comment on any of the giveaways that we have posted (Rules for the giveaway must still be followed, this is an EXTRA entry)

Remember, for every 100 downloads, a child will get a bed kit.

Speggwear

Crazy Christmas Wishlist Day 5
Maternity Wear

One thing that I find amazing is the inability to find quality maternity clothes that are in style...As I walk through the mall I really can't find much of anything. That's why I was thrilled to find a Canadian Company who makes the most trendy, cute maternity shirts!

Yes, the company I am talking about is Speggwear and if your expecting, or know someone who is, you really have to check out this company! I wear my top all the time, and love it!!

I received my Speggwear top when I was around 3 months preggo and had no bump to speak of. Well, now I'm almost 31 weeks, very bumpalicious and have put this top to work! I've worn it at least 50 times, and washed it at least that many, and it still looks brand new! the design hasn't faded or cracked in the slightest, it has kept its shape perfectly and the stitching has held up without a thread out of place. I've also had nothing but compliments on the top!!

Just knowing that Speggwear Tops are 100% Manufactured in Canada makes me feel that much better about them...Supporting Canadian Made is one of the things I love to do!!

The Giveaway

Speggwear is going to give one of my very lovely readers a top of their very own! To enter all you have to do is go over to Speggwear and check out all their wonderful designs! How Do You Pink??

In both Canada and the United States, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and a bunch of us girls have got together to talk about How We Pink.

Well, though our family so far has been spared so far in dealing with breast cancer, we have had some wonderful friends who have gone through this tough ordeal and thankfully made it through.

I've often wondered "what would I do" if the unfortunate occurred. Having not dealt with it in real life makes it easy to think of what I would do, though I'm sure the decisions would be much more difficult in the event that it really did happen to me. Right now, being unaffected, I think to myself that I would just have my breasts removed and move on, though the reality is, it is not such an easy decision.

So I decided that I was going to Pink by providing some links to Canadian Breast Cancer Resources.... Since I am the only Canadian Gal in the Blog Train, I feel that it would only be right to share the Canuck info....

So, This is what I've found so far....

The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation

Breast Cancer Society of Canada

Canadian Cancer Society

These are all wonderful resources to help you find information related to Breast Cancer. And please remember....

Do a self breast exam every month...it really could save your life.

Eleven Collection

So, many of my returning readers already know that I absolutely LOVE outfitting my little guy with shoes from Eleven Collection. They are one of the BEST made shoes I have ever put on his little (but quickly growing) feet.

Well, yesterday I received my latest order and they are my very favorite design to date! We got him Finn and OMGosh they are just to die for cute! They are a dark, chocolate brown with a seam straight up the middle! Well, my words just do them justice, check them out for yourself!

This is our third pair of Eleven Collection Shoes, and I have never had a problem with any of them. They wear very well, even on my very active little boy. The stitching holds up, to tears at all! The other two pair that we've put on our little guy are:

Josef

Joaquin

Some of the great features about Eleven Collection shoes (besides that they're so freekin cute) are: They are very comfy, (at least according to my little guy) They have lots of room in the toe, cushioned insoles, the collar (at the back of the shoe, where those blisters tend to form) is padded, to avoid the whole blister problem all together. And Velco!! 'Cause for busy parents, velcro on a kids shoe is imperative!! Eleven Collection shoes are available in sizes 9 -3 (ages 3-8) and will most likely last you through at least 2 kids! (I know mine will)

I know I've shown you all the Boy shoes...I'm a little partial, I only have boys. But I did pick out a few of my favorite Girly shoes to share with you too!

Eleven Collection has generously offered on of the A Busy Mommy readers the chance to win a pair of their shoes! Entry is easy!! Head over to Eleven Collection and check out their designs. Come back here and leave me a comment letting me know your favs!! Easy as pie!!

Yes....it's a personal post

I know, I know....it's been damn near forever since I've posted anything about my real life on here. I've done a few on http://www.jenbanks.com (yep - that's me) but mainly just Wordless Wednesdays and a few other bips and bobs...

I figure it's about time I got back into sharing some life with all everyone...so, where do I start???

Well, I could tell you about how Ben is finally in Preschool, 2 half days a week. He's loving it, (and so am I, 6 hours of free time a week is huge when you've gone almost 5 years without it)

I could also tell you about how I'm now 30 weeks preggo, extremely uncomfy and I can't eat anything with any sort of acid in it without paying for it for days to follow... This little guy is getting much bigger though...I've gained 26lbs as of Tuesday, with a little over 2 months to go...that means I will hit (and probably exceed) the 200lb mark....I really didn't want to do that. (I'm at 186 right now, so basically shit out of luck)

Here is a pick of my ever expanding belly....and yes, I know I look like I could go any day.

What else has been going on that you might be interested in? UMMMMMm.......I've been thinking of some holiday crafting, very excited about the Martha subscription that my Mom gifted to me.... (LOVE MARTHA) Planning on making a bunch of little trinkets that probably wont last the season, but will at least keep my hands busy.

Well...ummm....i dunno what else to say. Life in the A Busy Mommy house has been pretty routine and regular, without any BIG stories to share! Hopefully in the near future something exciting will happen. (the little voice in my head just screamed "be careful what you wish for")

OK, well, time to get back to work on Christmas. There are a few reviews and giveaways up now, go check them out, and share some comment luv...I'll have the shopping guide up on October 15th, so save your cents until then...lots of great offers coming your way!!

Oh! If you have a product you want listed in the shopping guide, it's only $10 to list! Email me @ jen@abusymommy.com

New! Duncan Hines Whole Grain

Crazy Christmas Wish List Day 2

Holiday Baking

Well, as many of you may know, I love to spend time in the kitchen, making yummy treats for my family to enjoy! Needless to say, I was thrilled when given the opportunity to try out Duncan Hines New Whole Grain Muffins!

First of all, my son and I made the Confetti Cupcakes, he's a fan of icing so we put together some yummy colored icing and decked them all out. Let me tell you these didn't last 2 days in our house. Between Ben and I eating them, they were gone in a flash. The confetti cupcakes were very moist and tasty and I was very happy with how they turned out!

Today, Ben and I put together the Triple Chocolate Cupcakes, (yes folks...I said Triple Chocolate!) To any chocolate addicts out there, these are the cupcakes for you! They went together in no time, (I think it took around 40 seconds to get the batter ready) and in the oven for 16 minutes! They came out wonderfully yummy and very very chocolaty. I did have to add the Chocolate Frosting on top (If your doing chocolate, the more the better right!)

I haven't tried the Apple Muffins or The Chocolate Chip Cookies just yet, but don't worry...I'll be sure to let you all know how they turn out!!

The Giveaway
