That's Me Thursday!

I have to say, I love this meme! In it's third week and it seems to be doing great. Check out the home of Thanks Me Thursday at The Classy Closet!

So, which pair of shoes am I? Today I'd have to say the slippers. I am sooo tired. My little one was up all night with a yucky stomach bug, making lots of equally yucky messes for mommy to clean up. Unfortunately, I had to work a 12 hour shift today too....so my sicky boy is home with daddy, but wants for me so bad.

I woke up at 10am...I'm supposed to be at work at 10am! So here I am, in a grungy ponytail, yesterdays jeans and NO MAKEUP!!

Gimmy a hot bath and a pair of slippers. Cause today, That's Me!!!

Wordless Wednesday

What life used to be like. This is my sister and I when we were small. (I'm under the umbrella) I love to look back at old pics and remember the easy life. Remember when your biggest problem was that your sibling took your favorite toy, or had your best shirt on? I do...I'd trade the problems of today for those any day.

Tunes On Tuesday!

I'm sure many of you have heard a little controversy about this song, but I just have to say...I Love It! Now, before you click play, please use your best judgement, if your tweens are within earshot. (I know most of them probably know the song, and have it on their Ipods, but as a warning, there are lyrics that are made to sound like nothing to do with a girl names Amy!)

We're finally Getting Comfy

Well folks, as many of you know, the A Busy Mommy family moved to our new apartment a little over a week ago, and I'm so happy to say, we're finally getting settled. Our belongings have homes, and the boxes are getting put away. YAY!!! The only room I have left to set up is my office...which is still piled with all the things I need to find homes for. That's going to take a little bit of work, and as a defined messy, it's hard for me to find the energy to do it! (There are so many things I'd much rather be doing!) The biggest shocker has been Ben. He went through a lot of "life" changes in this move, including losing his TV in his room. Prior to the move, we always had a horrible time getting him to go to sleep at night, well now he's TV free and goes to sleep within minutes of his head hitting the pillow! (YAYAYAYAY) We still have the inital issue of getting him to stay in his room, but once he's there, he's out like a light!!!

I have a lot of great things coming your way in the next month or two. First of all, there is the Spring Giveaway Event, which will run from April 1st to 30th, as well as the Mothers Day Event set to run from May 1st to 9th.

The A Busy Mommy Show is going to start broadcasting Live Friday April 3rd, at 10pm Atlantic Time, so be sure to mark it on your calendar, and tune in. We'll be doing LIVE product reviews and demonstrations, as well as a few surprised for all my Lovely readers/viewers.

Also, Classy Jen and I have a great new project in the works, and I can't wait to let you all in on the secret! As soon as I can, I'll share that info with all of you!

Kudos to you....way to get involved.

I don't know how many of you have heard, but it's all over the new's here in Canada. A Montreal Student was able to successfully stop a student in Norfolk, England from attacking his school with a fire bomb!

J.P. Neufeld is a moderator for the site http://www.newgrounds.com. On Tuesday he spotted a post that read:

Today at 11:30 GMT I will attack my school with arson and other forms of violence. Those bastards will pay.
Newfeld checked out the timezones, and realized that the attack was less than an hour away. In his quick thinking, the 21 year old student tried to slow the attacker down by talking to him. With the help of other users on the site, he was able to identify the suspect. He quickly called the Norfolk police, and thankfully was taken seriously.

The Norfolk police quickly alerted Attleborough, and teachers detained the 16-year-old in the office until police arrived. He was found to be carrying a knife, matches and a container of flammable liquid in his bag. Police also confiscated the teens computer.

So, my message to J.P. Neufeld...Thank You for getting involved. So many chose to look away and you did not! You got involved, and by doing so may have possible saved the lives of many young people and hopefully the young boy will be able to get the help he so obviously needs!

J.P. Neufeld...You are a hero!

Get Your Green Thumbs Ready!

Yes folks, spring is it the air, and it's time to start those tomato plants!! I love growing my own tomatoes all summer long, though this year may be a bit different. In years past, I would grow them directly in the ground, throw some top soil down, a little compost...and let nature take care of the rest. Well, sometimes nature isn't so friendly, and my yummy tomatoes end up food for other little creatures....Yes, I mean bugs. Caterpillars galore would swarm over my prize Tomatoes, not leaving me much to munch on.

Well, that's not going to happen this year. For one, my tomatoes will be grown on my deck, not down in a garden...don't have one. We just moved to a great apartment, but no room for a decent garden, so my veggies will be potted this year. Secondly, I'm going to try something new.A great new organic tomato growing kit is my secret weapon. The Safer brand Tomato and Vegetable Gardening Kit comes complete with everything you need to grow your Tomatoes. Well, less the soil. But hey, it has everything else! First I have to tell you about Steak It Easy. This is a great new tool for every veggie gardener out there. I don't know how many times I've fought with my vine plants. Trying to keep them from drooping, keeping the veggies off the ground. Well, the Steak It Easy does all the work for you. As your plant grows, the Steak It Easy can be extended to the height of your plants, up to an amazing 6' tall! It's has awesome EZ Step Stake Anchors that make it easy to install, any time of season!

But hey! That's not all. Included in this kit is the Safer brand Tomato and Vegetable Insect Killer. Now, I know we all love to eat organic, and hey, that's why we grow our own right! Well, on of the biggest issue that we have when we're growing organic are those pesky bugs that I mentioned before. Well, rest assured, the Safer brand Tomato and Vegetable Insect Killer is OMRI listed, and compliant for use in organic gardening. It uses pyrethrins and potassium salts of fatty acids to kill those pests on contact. Keeping your plants safe from pests, and your tomatoes free of unwanted chemicals.

So Now The Move Is Done...

...But I so need to tell you about this great service that helped me get through my move, with some sanity left. You know how moving is one big hustle and bustle, lots of loose ends that need to be tied, cleaned up. Utilities switched over and stuff like that? Well, I don't think I would have made it with out the help of Move Me! They offer such a great service, it really takes most of the work out of moving!!

Move Me is a complete must when you decide that it is time for your family to move. This site makes your work so much easier. They have wonderful guides for people who are first time home buyers, renters, sellers pretty much any circumstance is covered by Move Me.

When your going through all the work of trying to organize utility hookups or looking for a great moving company it can be very stressing. Trust me, I know...I just went through it all when I moved a week and a half ago. Not only was Move Me very helpful, they have some great free features as well. I took full advantage of the Free Move Planner, and did it ever help me to stay organized.

Our biggest issue was garbage removal. Just getting removal quotes was horrible, searching the phone book, looking for the best price, such a waste of time. But we needed it. In the two years that we lived at our previous address, we acquired so much "junk" that you could barely find room to take your shoes off. (I'm not joking either) I swore that none of that was coming with me, what could be sold/donated/given away was, and the rest found it's new home at the waste resource center.

Well, now that we've moved, the man and van are gone, things are getting settled. It's so nice to know that the next time around our move will be so much easier with Move Me involved. Now, I just need someone to do all my unpacking, and putting away!! Any volunteers??

That's It....I'm Done!!

Well, Kinda.

Thursday was the big day, DH and I loaded up our Rental Truck and moved. And all I have to say is OUCH!!! I am in horrible shape!! Two days later now and I hurt more than I did after childbirth. At one point, after a few frustrating moments, I looked at DH and said "Hey, I wasn't built to lift and carry huge furniture, I was built to push out babies." He didn't find me too funny at the time, but hey...it's true. I never want to do that again, but since we're renting, I'm guessing I will have to.

My neck and left arm are really sore, as well as my calves. I'm hoping (since this is day 2 of pain, and the worst yet) that tomorrow some of this pain will go away. I'm not much of a pill taker, so I tend to just deal with it rather than mask it. (I don't deal too well though)

So now we're going through withdraw. The Cable Guy wont be able to connect us until Wednesday, so were lacking in regular distractions. No cable, no internet, and no phone. At least not for the next 5 days. I'm so hoping they come early on Wednesday. We both have to work opposite shifts on Wednesday, and it's an all day appointment. Fingers Crossed!!

Yesterday Momma came over and helped me unpack. I'm so glad she did, cause it's almost all done!!! She was able to get Ben's room completely finished, and she now knows that Ben has way to much!! He is in need of nothing, not a single thing...nada! Anyone who buys my kid a toy is going to get a kick in the shin...he doesn't need it. (Now, if only I can stop myself from buying him anything, I can't really kick myself in the shin....doesn't work so well)

I hope that everyone is having a great weekend! I'm at work, then off to the laundry mat! (My washer and dryer are at momma's house, in the shed, behind a snow bank 5ft tall) Com'on spring....I hate the Laundry Mat.

Tomorrow is the Day!

Our family will move to a new apartment tomorrow, and I am not at all ready. Though I was able to get a lot packed, there is still a lot that has yet to be sorted, moved around, and there is two rooms I haven't even looked at yet. HELP ME!!!!

LOL, no...I kid. It's my HUGE mess, and it's mine to clean up. I would have to say that I am certainly paying the price for over indulging in so many things that we just don't need. Do you know that so far, throughout this packing process, I've found over 35 pens!!! Who needs that many?

On Friday, Momma Dear is coming over to help unpack...I can't wait to hear what she has to say when she see's how much of my JUNK has followed me to the new place. LOL...HELP!!!

Since I wont have internet until next Wednesday, I'll probably be a bit scarce...soo thankful for the connection at work though!! Now, I just need to find a way to keep DH and DS occupied....no cable until Wednesday either...

OH!! And I fixed the comment problem, so feel free to comment to any and all posts!

This week I am Little Miss Busy. Moving day is this Thursday and I am no where near ready. Besides the fact that I have barley started packing, I have a mountain of laundry to wash, dry fold, pack and sooo much more. I'm actually quite flabberghasted at the amount of work that I have to do....anyone want to come help me?

On top of all that, I work tonight, tomorrow, and Wednesday...not even a day off to get packed but alas...it will get done...Little Miss power will help be along the way. Now, If only I could stay off the computer long enough to get it done.

Have a Great Monday!!

The New Neighbours

Yesterday I had my first experience with the New Neighbours. And I have to say, it started out on a very negative note. First of all, let me explain a little.

The apartment that we've rented is a Top/Bottom duplex, with us renting the top, and a couple about retirement age living downstairs...they've lived down there for 16 years. So far, all the times I've gone to clean, their car hasn't been in their driveway, so I hadn't yet gone down to introduce myself. When I first signed the lease, the landlord said that he had to evict that last family because they made too much noise. (Though he didn't clarify just what kind of noise was the problem)

So, here is how it went:

Ding Dong....

Me: Hi there, How are you!
Him: Not Very Good...I just went through 6months of Hell, listening to a Kid running from room to room every day, all day.
Me: Well sir, I'm sorry about that. I do have a 4 year old son, and they do tend to be active. Right now, there is room to run as we haven't moved our furniture in yet. We'll do our best to keep it down.
Him: I just can't do this again. (He was actually shaking) We got that last people evicted because there was constant noise. I can't do this again.
Me: I assure you sir, we'll do our best.
Me: Ben, Come Here~Can you say Hi! This is our new neighbour! He just came up to let us know that its really loud downstairs when your running from room to room. Do you think we try not to run so much.
Ben: Yes Mom.
Me: Ok, Sir, Have a great day, Bye Bye.
Him: Bye Bye.
Door Closes
Me: #@#$%$#$%^&^&&%^$%$%^&&&^%^ (I'm sure you can all figure that out)

So, I walk through the house, slightly pissed off. A little mad that the landlord didn't explain this all to me, and frustrated because I was so excited about such a great deal. Then I just thought to myself, it's time to bring out the people skills. 15 years of waitressing and customer service has taught me a lot, including a sentence that I've lived by my whole life...."Kill'em with Kindness"

When I was working in restaurants, I would have to deal with people of every different mood and temperment all day, every day. So, If I can make those people leave smiling, I can make this cranky couple down stairs smile too.

Since it was only the man who came upstairs, I decided that I needed to go speak to the wife, find out the real story about the people who lived there before, and just what all the problems were. I wanted to go with a positive attitude, offering a little "give and take" type thing.

So Ben and I put out boots and coats on, and head downstairs.

Now, this conversation went much better. I learned that who ever lived upstairs were not willing to try, they had no respect for this couple who had lived there for many years. After 16 years in the apartment, I can see that this is their home, not a temporary until something better comes along. Do I think they should live downstairs....NO. Not if kids running on your head is an issue, but I can't change that either.

So the wife filled me in on the Hell that they did go through...and I agree, it probably was hell. When the child was being really noisy, and it was bothering her, she would call up (I have no idea how often this happened, or for how much noise) When the Mom who lived their previous would get off the phone, she herself would jump up and down just to piss them off more. In the middle of the night, they would flush the toiled 3 times in a row, just to get the water running. (You can hear the water going through the pipes) They had constant company, people in and out all the time (none of the neighbours business, but can still be noisy). There was a blatant disrespect for their surroundings.

So, what I said was..."I understand that when people are running and jumping off furniture, it is very loud down here. I will do my best to help avoid any situations are really frustrating for you. But I'll need your help too. Ben is four. We will have a "no running in the house rule" (I wasn't allowed to run in the house as a kid) but it's going to take a week or two for him to get used to this new rule. By the time we were finished chatting, they were smiling and I was fairly confident that we should be able to work past this.

Now...many people would say, that we have just as much right to live and be happy as they do. And I would agree with that, but at the same time, when we chose to live in situations where the are people so close, we need to try to respect the others right to live comfy as well. So, I am taking this as a learning and growing experience. Ben has never has a lot of rules about proper indoor behavior, and with school coming in the next year and a half, it's a great time to learn. Also, I am not very good at getting Ben outside to play a lot, so I figure, a great way for me to keep him from jumping off the furniture is to get him outside.

So, here is our plan....off the kitchen is our deck, we're going to gate the stairs. As soon as the weather warms up, the main door for that will be left open, and the screen door will be closed. When Ben feels the need, he can go out there and jump to his hearts content. His bike will be there as well. In the yard will be his swing set, and luckily, there is a little girl who lives next door! (YAY!!!) I'm sure they will spend lots of time sliding and swinging!! About a 10 min walk up the road is a play park for young kids as well. This will come in very handy. Also, since Ben does not go to a playgroup, or have regular interactions with other children, we will go to McD's probably 2 to 3 mornings a week for "Play Time."

When it comes to things like birthday parties and similar events, I will give them a heads up, maybe even invite them, (so they don't have to hear the pitter patter of little feet) Oh, and when we first move in, Ben and I are going to bake some cookies and take them down. If we try...this will work. My big shocker was DH. Normally in a situation like this he would rant and rave about things like "I pay for it therefore I should be able to enjoy it" and things like that...and I'm sure if they are just "Complainers" that attitude will come back. But one of the first things he asked me was "I wonder where they like to eat, maybe we could get them a card and a gift certificate) Input my jaw hitting the floor here!! I think he had a wonderful idea, and I will definitely be picking up a GC to somewhere.

So, folks, I'd love some input. What do you think I should do. Have I handled it ok so far? And suggestions of how to keep Ben from jumping up and down all the time would be really really appreciated too!

I'm living up to my name!!

Yesterday was such a full day, I felt so gratified. I was living up to my name, A Busy Mommy.

After staying up way too late with ClassyJen the night before, 8am came very fast. But I drug my sleepy butt out of bed and got my day started! First I had to drive hubby to work, he had to be there for 9am. I had to work at 10am, and since we don't have any daytime child care, Ben went with me. Before I made it to work though, I headed over to the dollar store to pick up a few things I need for the move...a new mop head, a broom handle, and a few cheapy toys to keep Ben entertained while at work with Mommy. He picked out a phonics writer, markers, a bag of small animals, a bag of small dinosaurs, and a pkg with a few army men and a catapult. Just before we headed off to work, we picked up a Pink Lemonade sports drink for him to drink while at work.

Now, this is completely my fault but....He was a tyrant at work with me!! He had had trouble sleeping the night before, and I added red dye into the mix. Yup, that pink lemonade that I didn't even give a second thought too had hyperfied my usually very lovely and caring 3.75 year old into a wall bouncing, kicking and thrashing lunatic!! I was at my wits end with him come lunch time. Thankfully, my boss/stepfather came in and saw the smoke rolling out of my ears and offered to work through the afternoon so I could take Ben out of there.

We decided to grab some lunch and head up to the new apartment to get some work done.
We loaded up the car with a lot of my kitchen stuff and headed over to the new place! There is nothing better than an empty apartment for a hyperfied preschooler to burn off all that energy. (Well, maybe outdoors but hey, it's still flippin cold outside here) So, I cleaned for about 2.5 hours, (I love my new kitchen...it's huge!!!) and Ben ran for about the same...he's a great little helper and he was down on all fours scrubbing the bathroom floor for as long as his attention span would allow.

Around 6pm, Daddy was all done working, and I picked him up at work and he dropped me back off. I had to go finish my shift. We had our bi-weekly crib tournament last night, and usually I don't play, but they were short a person so I jumped right in. I tried my darndest but to no avail, I ended up in second to last place...not a winner for me, but I had a lot of fun!!

When I closed up shop at around 10pm, Daddy came back to get me and we took another load of kitchen stuff up to the apartment. We walked around the new place, imagining what it will be like with all of our stuff there. Chatting about what is going where, what to keep, what to sell, ect...we didn't actually make it home until about 11:30pm. And I went in, and turned on my PC...I had planned to tell you all last night about my productive day, but I didn't have it in me. I laid down on the futon, and watched 10,000bc on demand. (Pretty Good)

I hope all the other Busy Mommies out there had productive days....as for today, not so productive. I think I used it all up yesterday!

Where I see myself!

I am the "Mom" of our very young family, we both work, yet only have one car. Though we are lucky to have a newer car still under warranty, one still craves for something more. This great new site has peaked my interest, and I just felt the need to share it with all of my lovely readers.

Mercedes-Benz Canada launched this luxurious new site promoting the 2010 GLK in Toronto, Canada in early February. I am here to tell you, that as soon as I started playing around on the site, I fell in love with the GLK. This site has such an innovative design, allowing visitors to experience the GLK in their own way, on their own terms. Use the personality profiler to create your back drop, your dream scenario for riding around in the new 2010 GLK. So, do you love it yet? Well, don't worry, you don't need to loose your dream car when you close the window. Download your scenario and set it to your wallpaper! It will always remind you of where you want to be!!

On the site, you'll find all the technical infomation you could ever need when shopping for a new Mercedes GLK. All the available add ons, all the extra's are easy to find and price, there are also some wonderful downloadable images and videos putting the all-new GLK in the spotlight!

So, Now I, as well as Mercedes-Benz want to know...

Where do you see yourself?

On The Threshold Of Thirty! a reflection

Yup!! That's where you'll find me sitting! Today I am officially 29, the last year of my 20's...I will no longer be called a twenty-something, no longer a "young lady" no longer able to pass off my mistakes as "too young to know any better" and as I sit, writing this, I'm trying to decide just how I feel about that.

A lot has happened since I first turned 20.

My "X" boyfriend flooded the apartment that we lived in. ( My stuff was packed, I was leaving) He left the water running in the bath tub for 5 hours...yes your read that right!! I at the time had a double ear infection and couldn't hear anything, I went out into the kitchen and the whole floor was flooded!! It was about 2am, and just as I noticed it, the fire alarm went off. So...you can imagine all the people who lived in that security building, leaving their homes with their kids at 2 am...Fire trucks and police everywhere... Lots of excitement!! Needless to say, the next day we were evicted (yay, I needed to get out of the lease anyway) but then, a couple weeks later we were both served with papers...the buildings insurance company was suing us for $12,000.00...
Thankfully, a friendly insurance adjuster came to see me, and quickly realized that you can't get blood from a stone. They didn't pursue the issue with me...I don't know what happened with the "X"...we haven't spoken since...

The restaurants that were owned by my family were no longer...I grew up in Chinese Restaurants. My mom and now "X" Step Father owned 2 very busy/popular Chinese Restaurants in our town, and I spent way more time there than at home. I would skip school, just so that I could go work with mom. I had a large chip on my shoulder for a long time cause I always felt like my "X" Step Father had taken my mom away from me, making her work EVERYDAY...now that I'm older, I realize that wasn't so, but I"m still glad he's gone, and let me tell you my mom has done much better now!! These last 9 years are the happiest I've ever seen my Mom! And she soooooo deserves it...She worked so had to give us a good life, and she did a wonderful job. I love you MOM!!

As a result of the restaurants closing, I had to find a job!! I went for 2 months with no luck then in one day I got a job at Subway and KFC/Pizza Hut! Well, Subway didn't last! I give credit to those who work at Subway, that job is a definite handful. I chose to keep the job at KFC/Pizza Hut, and I worked there for over 5 years!! That is where I met (For the second time) DH! (The first time I had met him is a whole other story, that requires a post all of it's own) Corey and I started hanging out shortly after I started working there, and we became pretty inseperatable. After about a year, we moved in together. We enjoyed our youth together for about 3 years before we got that wonderful little "+" sign. When we were both 25, and after 42 hours of labour, Ben was born....(I Love Epidurals) And now, we live our lives as a family, still enjoying what's left of our youth, and standing in awe at the brilliant little creation Ben has become!!

While I was on MAT leave, I got addicted to the internet, and I will say, that is an addiction that I would nurture for as long as I can. I love being able to blog, chat, meet new people!! The world has become soooo much smaller since the invent of the Internet, and although there are some negatives, I am really thankful for the ability to connect with so many great people from the comfort of my living room.

So, what's in store for my 29th year?

Well, remember the apartment that I mentioned a few posts ago? We Got It!!! Corey, Ben and I will be moving into the new place within the next two weeks! I have a bit of cleaning to do there before the big move happens, and thankfully we aren't rushed to get out of where we live. Although I'm sure we will miss my inlaws a bunch, we're really looking forward to having our own space again.

So far that, and waiting for this flippin snow to go away are my immediate plans, what's next? I'm not too sure yet, you'll have to make sure to subscribe so you don't miss out!

Thanks to all my loyal readers, who come over daily to see what I have to say. Look out!! This year is bound to be way more exciting than the last!!
