What Would You Do?

Do you play with other peoples kids?

The other day my bff and I took our boys to the park, her's is almost 3, mine just turned 4. We let them play for some time before they wanted us to join in...you know just getting our gossip on. So after a while another Mom came with her little boy. He was probably about 4, very well groomed and happy. He wanted to play with our guys.

Well, we had no problem letting the boy join in, and they played well for a little while. Our guys wanted to play on the swings, so we got up from our chat, (the other mom was just sitting on the end of the slide) and helped our boys on the swings and started pushing them. Well, this other little boy wanted to swing as well but his Mom didn't budge....she just sat their watching.

After a few minutes of the little boy asking, and some funny looks between myself and my friend, my bff picked him up and put him on the swing. It was obvious that his Mom wasn't going to push him on the swing. I was nervous about picking him up...In this day and age you really don't know what you can or cannot do, especially with a child that you don't know from a whole in the ground.

I thought it was sad that his Mom made no attempt to come join in the swinging, and that she would put complete strangers in such a spot. I don't touch other peoples kids without permission, unless they're in a dangerous situation. ie, about to be hit by a car. So I'm wondering...What would you have done?

Quite a difficult one... I don't think I would have picked the child up... just in case she/he gets hurts or starts screaming.
Sounds strange that Mum just sat back and watched.

I would not have picked up the kid and put him in the swing. I would have said "little boy, go ask your Mom to push you on the swing."

Now like the above comment I would help a child up if they fell and were closer to me than their Mother.

I first would have asked him to go and "ask his Mommy" if he could have a swing. If he was still not given a push by his caretaker I would have gone over and asked her permission. It breaks my heart to see children with passive parents who would rather talk on their cell phones than spend some quality time with their offspring.

But, I don't think I would have picked the little guy up without asking first.... its sad but, true that you could have had a law suit or some such craziness on your hands:(
