A Busy Mommy is on the hunt

Being the Busy Mommy that I am, I am always on the hunt for a few extra minutes here or there, just to spend on myself. As a focus for 2009, with the prospects of my life getting much busier, I am now hunting for some great "Time Saving" products for all members of the family to review and promote here, on the A Busy Mommy On The Go blog.

Do you know of a great product, or have one of your own you would like to see featured, please, email me at abusymommyonthego[@]gmail[dot]com. I am looking forward to spending the new year with a few extra minutes for me.

On The Ninth Day Of Christmas Giveaway Closed

A Busy Mommy Gave To Me

An awesome Parking Pal Magnet from Parking Pal.

I know that all the busy mommies out there are petrified of the dangers that can happen in parking lots with small children. I know it's one of my biggest worries when Ben and I are out and about. Your trying to unload your children and items from your car, and sometimes there just isn't an extra hand to hold. Well, when a good friend of mine pointed me in the direction of this product I was so excited. Not only because it will help reinforce a rule already in place in my family, but because it is such an awesome idea.

The Parking Pal Magnet is a fun way to help keep you kids in one place. Just place the magnet on your car and your children are to put their hands in the hand print.

Now, the rule for Ben when we're getting out of the car is...he must have one hand on the car until we're ready to proceed into the store. And he usually follows this rule. I can't wait for Ben to get this. He will love knowing that he has a "Safe Spot".
Here is a little info directly from the Parking Pal Website.

MISSION:
  • Help reduce injuries to children in parking lots
  • Heighten awareness of the dangers in parking lots.

WHY IS IT NEEDED:
Parents, grandparents, day-care providers, aunts, uncles, friends, or whoever is caring for a child can be easily distracted in parking lots. Loading or unloading packages, rifling for keys, tending to the baby, or helping elderly parents can take precious attention away from our children, leaving them vulnerable to a number of dangerous situations. Other drivers can't see when they back up because the car next to them is too large or they're distracted by their cell phones, or blind spots make it easy for them to overlook small children who may be behind them. And children, well, they don't always do what they're told or stay where they should. It only takes one second for tragedy to strike.

HOW IT WORKS:
Place the Parking Pal on the side of your vehicle, where it will remain safely attached at all times. It was specifically designed with bright colors, playful illustrations, and a small palm children love to place their hands on. After a couple learning sessions, your child will discover that the Parking Pal is their safe spot, and they will know where to go the second they are outside the car. It also helps teach them that parking lots are no place to play.

HOW IT CAME ABOUT:
One mother residing in Virginia began to think of ways to keep her kids focused so the chance of them bolting or wondering in parking lots would be eliminated. She created the Parking Pal and IT WORKED. Austin, her 5-year old, and Aiden, her 3-year old, love the Parking Pal. When getting out of or coming back to the vehicle they go directly to it, put their hand on it, fiddle around with it and chat with each other while she gets her youngest into his stroller or back into his car seat. Until all vehicles are equipped with back-up cameras and all until all drivers remember to pay careful attention in parking lots, this is a great aid in keeping your child safer.

So, here is your chance to win your very own Parking Pal. Head on over to the Parking Pal website and choose the design you would like if your chosen as the winner. Come back here tell us what your choice was in the comment section. Easy right!! (This step must be completed in order for any extra entries to qualify)

I have turned into my grandmother...

and I am only 28.

I shouldn't say that completely, but there are so many of her habits that I have picked up it just has to be mentioned. (Actually, my Mom pointed it out to me)

My brother, sister and I were all raised by my Mother and my Grandmother. Mom had to work and Green Nan took care of us while she worked.

First of all, I'll explain "Green Nan". We grew up with 3 Grandmothers and no Grandfathers. All of our Grandfathers had passed on quite young. My 2 Grandfathers passed in their 40's and my Great Grandfather passed in his 60's, all happened in the 70's. ( I was born in 80 and I am the oldest)

My Mom's Mom, and her Mother In Law lived next door to each other, and they were both called Nan. So, for us kids to be able to seperate them, they were assigned a color. The easiest was the color of their house, so my Nan was Green Nan, and my Great Grandmother was Blue Nan. A little silly, but it worked for us. They have both passed away now, and I remember them often, I know they're with me always.

So, back to why I've turned into my grandmother. My "Green Nan" was wonderful in our eyes. She loved to do laundry, made sure it was done everyday. (I didn't receive this trait, I love doing laundry, but I don't put it at the top of my list of things to do, It's a little closer to the bottom, hence my huge laundry monster sitting at home waiting for me.) She always had lunch and supper made, worked on it all day, it was always a healthy, real food, meal. (I strive to do this, but I don't have the time she did. The biggest idiosyncrasy was that she always had to have all her things that she "might" need with her. While she lived on her own, when we picked her up to come over, she always had at least 3 or 4 bags of stuff with her (and I'm talking large canvas shopping bags). Sometimes she never touched the bags the whole time she was at our house, but she had to have them. When we drove her home at night, the bags went home with her. This is the trait that I got from her. When I go to work every day, I bring at least 2-3 bags of stuff with me, and they go home with me when I leave. (Understand that my job basically resembles the Matag Repair Man) I can't stand to just sit and do nothing, and there is only a little cleaning that can be done here, so I spend most of my days organizing my coupons, or making earrings, paper crafts or blogging as I am right now (and I get paid for the time too!).

DH can get a little annoyed with me, as it's him that ends up doing most of the lugging, I hear quite often, "can't they just stay in the car, you'll take them again in the morning" but no, dear, I can't leave them in the car, paper crafts and damp weather don't stand up well, and what if someone broke in and took it all. Yes, I am a little silly, but I feel like I need them.

Even today, the first snow storm of the year, shoveling for an hour, and the chance that I may have to walk up the road to my work, I still lug all my things with me, because what would I do If I was bored and didn't have it?

Another way my habits resemble my Green Nan are cooking. My Grandmother made stew at least once a week in the winter, (we called it stew, but I've come to learn most call it Boiled Dinner) I do this as well, and it's the same as hers. It's actually the only thing I learned to make that actually tastes like it did when she made it. I make a HUGE roasting pot full of it and eat it all week!! It is my absolute favorite meal in the world!! I'm still trying to figure out how to make her hamburg and gravy (my Mom can't do it either)

Well, I have a few customers now, so I should sign off. I leave you with a pic of my "Green Nan"

Beautiful Nursing Bras by Condessa

White or beige. Those were the color choices when I went shopping for nursing bras. Ugly and plain, resembles my Grandmothers bras. I would have loved to have the opportunity to come home from the hospital wearing a beautiful mauve, or pink nursing bra or panty set. Such a perfect way to make me feel better about my post baby body. Well, now the opportunity has arrived with Condessa Beautiful Nursing Bras. When baby #2 finally comes along, this busy mommy will be sporting a brand new Condessa Veronica Set. Just a little way to make me feel myself again.

OH, and for all the hubby's out there looking for a great Christmas Present for their expecting wives, a Condessa Bra and Panty set would put a smile on just about any womans face!

I'm Confused.

It's probably just a case of mistaken identity, but earlier today, while I was sending out my earrings to be reviewed, the Lady working at the Canada Post Booth, said she recognized me. She asked if I ever went by the name "Jena." And I have, but mostly online and all in the last five years. She said that she used to call me to make sure that I was "OK", and that she had a lot of love for me. Now, she says she remembers me from about 12 years ago, which would make me 16, which was about the same time that I dated someone that she knew. He has since taken his own life, but that was years ofter our involvement.

I'm really confused, some of the details line up, and just a few don't. I've been trying to find out the name of the girl who my "friend" was seeing when he took his life. But I'm having trouble finding that info, and besides, I really don't want to stir up those memories for his family.

I hope it is mistaken Identity, as I don't want to make her feel bad by my not being able to remember her...but I'm just unsure at to what to do now. We all need a little extra love in our lives!!

Lest We Forget

Nov 10, 2008

Who keeps calling me???

I am so tired of running to grab the phone. It only rings when I'm up to my elbows in laundry, or half way through a sink full of dishes. And so, I get to the phone and say. "Hello" just to hear empty space...then a recording. GRRRRR!!!! I've recently found a way to find out who is calling me, and a way to report those annoying phonecalls. Check it out.www.reportphonenumbers.com

I found this site to be very helpful in attaining the information for those annoying calls.

A Busy Mommy gave to me

A Scrabble Tile Pendant From Home Studio!!

Wow, I was so excited when the Mark and Stef over at Home Studio agreed to host a giveaway. I love their pendants. I currently own 3 Scrabble Tile pendants, including "The Giving Tree", "Be Green", and "Dandylion Trio". And I wear them all the time. Some of you may remember my previous post about HomeStudio. If not, you can check it out here.

While I was checking out their site today, I noticed a bunch of new holiday style pendants as well. My new favorite is a toss up between "Noel" and "Retro Ornaments"

So, what are you able to win today?

HomeStudio has generously offered up the "Red Sakura" Scrabble Tile Pendant and Snake Chain to one of A Busy Mommies lucky readers.

What would you do with your minute?

A lot can happen in One Minute? What would you do?

That is the challenge that McDonalds is asking all families. The Mom Salon and McDonalds are sponsoring a giveaway for the first 35 people to post what they would do with their 1 minute. After Checking out happymeal.com I've decided to change my original answer from Dancing to "Plant It" I believe in a greener way of life, and If I took just one minute a day, a week, or a month to spend some time with Ben, and plant a seed, plant, tree... It would help to instill a greener way of life in Ben, and help our environment today.

So, What would you do with your minute?

Dont forget to check out happymeal.com

The Big Job Arrives!!!

With Christmas fast approaching, it's time to start cleaning up and cleaning out. I have a huge job ahead of me. We live in a very small space right now, which happens to be cram packed full, and I need to make room for a Christmas Tree and a Drum Set. So, the inevitable task of changing my living room around is weighing over my head like a huge rain cloud.

First of all, I need to clean out Ben's toys, as he has enough to run a small daycare. I also need to get some cable wire, so I can move my TV. Corey's Weight Bench needs to come down, and get stored away. (He doesn't use it, so it's of no loss) The futon, chair and all the wall hangings need to be moved down a couple feet. The computer desk needs to be moved to the opposite wall and organized. Leaving me one large corner for the tree, and eventually the drum set.

Since we are planning to move in early spring, most things that we just don't use will be packed away until then. I have one bookshelf that needs to come out as well. It houses a lot of the things that we don't use, and some toys. Once they're packed away, the shelf will be of no use, so hopefully my inlaws can use it upstairs.

I'm totally not looking forward to this job, as it is a huge one. For right now, I need boxes and cable wire. I'll keep you posted and probably with pictures of the finished product.

My Beautiful Earrings By Kimberly Monaco Designs

Recently I entered a Blog Giveaway from Designs By Vanessa for a pair of Monaco earrings. And Yay!! I won second place!!! I was so happy to win these as I had been admiring Kimberly's work for a while. There are quite a few things in her etsy shop that I would love to have in my jewelery box.

I was excited to receive these. They showed up in no time, and were presented beautifully. They came in a box wrapped in a large green ribbon. I loved them as soon as I saw them. Their unique design has gotten compliments since I put them in, and the beautiful vintage glass beads are stunning.

These are a few of my other favs from Kimberly Monaco Designs. I would definitely suggest checking this shop out while your holiday shopping this year!

Thanks again for the great earrings Kim, I wear them all the time!
